Three riders on the alpine meadow above Gudamakari Valley — the kind of view that makes people book a flight back next year.

2-Day Alpine MTB Epic: Riding Juta Valley & Gudamakari Pass (2,500m) with Norwegian Shredders

There’s nothing quite like combining two of Georgia’s most breathtaking high-alpine valleys into one action-packed 2-day mountain biking adventure.

Recently, we had the absolute pleasure of guiding a group of three super-strong riders from Norway. Equipped with solid endurance and top-notch bike handling, these girls crushed every climb, technical descent, and river crossing we threw at them!

Here is the story of our epic 2-day journey through Juta Valley and over the Gudamakari Pass.

Day 1: High Alpine Vibes & Scenic Trails in Juta

We kicked off Day 1 climbing into the stunning Juta Valley. The weather was absolute perfection: bright blue skies, warm sun, and crisp mountain air.

As we gained elevation, the panoramic views of the surrounding green ridges kept getting better. We took our time enjoying the flowy sections and soaking in the scenery.

Our next stop was the famous alpine lake near Juta. It was the perfect spot to kick back on the grass, catch our breath, and enjoy the serenity of the high Caucasus.

Further up the valley, we were greeted by the iconic, jagged peaks of the Chaukhi Massif (often called the Georgian Dolomites). Standing with our bikes right in front of these giant rock walls was definitely one of the biggest highlights of the day.

After a solid day in the saddle, we wrapped up Day 1 at the Fifth Season terrace—sipping cold local beers and watching the late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the valley.

Day 2: Gudamakari Pass (2,500m) & The Wet-Feet Reality!

Day 2 was all about big backcountry landscapes, serious elevation, and true adventure terrain.

📌 Important Route Update for Riders:

If you are planning to ride this route, please note that the old singletrack trail is currently unusable. Instead, the tour now climbs over the rugged Gudamakari Pass at 2,500 meters via a high-altitude dirt mountain road. It’s a demanding climb, but the wide-open views are 100% worth the effort!

One thing you need to know about Gudamakari: your feet WILL get wet! The trail involves crossing numerous mountain streams and rivers—sometimes riding through the rushing water, sometimes wading on foot.

Passing huge remnant summer snow arches along the riverbanks kept the air cool and added a wild backcountry feel to the ride.

Following trail markers and navigating mountain passes requires steady legs and good energy. Our Norwegian crew pushed up to the pass without hesitation, showing fantastic fitness and technique.

After conquering the pass and navigating river crossings, we found the perfect patch of alpine wildflowers for a well-earned rest. Laying back in the grass under the warm sun was pure mountain bliss!

The Ultimate Reward: Post-Ride Khinkali in Pasanauri

After descending through Gudamakari Valley, cold water and tired legs gave way to the absolute best part of any Georgian mountain bike tour: the feast.

We made a mandatory stop in Pasanauri—the legendary birthplace of Khinkali (traditional Georgian juicy dumplings). We devoured a massive plate of hot Khinkali to refuel after two big days in the mountains.

A huge shoutout to our awesome Norwegian riders for their amazing energy, strength, and smiles throughout the entire trip!
